On the 14th of November 2012 Patrice and I left my sister in Sydney and flew to Cairns. We arrived at 8am and just happened to miss a solar eclipse which had the whole town buzzing. We dropped our bags at the 'Backpacker Central' and went for breakie on the square and sat watching the morning shower fall for a few moments before the sun returned,as it was rainy season. After our cappuccinos we went for a wander around the town picking up some postcards and water resistant covers for our compact cameras. We walked down towards the waterfront and stumbled upon the lagoon which is beautiful, with its turquoise water and fluttering with activity we decided to change and take full advantage of this beautiful place. .....................................(see more).......................................... The heat of the sun here is not like we experienced so far in Sydney, its intense and there is little breeze so frequent immersion in the water to cool down in not just nice but required. It was just such a relaxing day, listening to beats, writing postcards home and writing in my journal about all id seen was just what i needed. When the sun retreated in the evening we went to freshen up, positively a skin tone darker than that morning. We went for something to eat and a few drinks in P.J O Briens Irish bar before retiring early enough as we had to catch an early bus to Airlie Beach the next morning. A truly lovely, relaxed and warm place was our first quick impression of Cairns. I'd defiantly go back for a visit, even just to get to that lagoon again.
